“O’er the Pond”
Fog Forest exhibits Mount Allison Artists
From May 14 to June 5, the Fog Forest Gallery will be showcasing the works of Mount Allison alumni, former students, and Mt. A faculty to celebrate the Convocation weekend. For a number of years now Janet Crawford, the gallery owner, has exhibited works from artists linked to the university in this annual exhibition.
This year’s show, entitled "O’er the Pond – Mount Allison Showcase" features a new etching by Susan Paterson (BFA 1980) of the Swan Pond on campus. It's a good signature piece for this exhibition. Among the other artists showcasing at this exhibition are Tom Forrestall (BFA 1958); Christopher Pratt, ( BFA 1957); and Alexandrya Eaton (BFA 1991) – whose brightly coloured floral splashed works have been on display, which some might recognize from walks past the Gallery this past winter. Though you might be surprised not to find works from many 2010 grads, Crawford explains that with a few exceptions, the reason for this is that most new graduates are just beginning their career journey. A mixed media drawing by a current graduate, Peggy Sue Payne, is included in this exhibition. Payne is a mature student with a previous art degree to her credit.
Crawford beams, “The exhibition at Fog Forest Gallery is always one of the most exciting exhibitions that I organize all year because all of the artists bring...a quality in their work and a diversity.” Crawford very much enjoys the contrast in works shown at this exposition, “from abstracted paintings by Eaton, class of 1991 to high realism from Pratt and Forrestall who graduated in the 1950s.”
From paintings to photographs and hand-made art prints, 17 different artists from various periods at Mount Allison, dating as far back as 1949 and as recently as 2009 and 2010 will be showing their works at the Fog Forest Gallery – most assuredly a show you do not want to miss!

Coming Shows for Next Fall
The Fog Forest Gallery is pleased to be bringing you “My Feathered Friends” in September, which will be an “invitational multimedia exhibit exploring birds”, says Crawford, who has invited a painter, a wood sculptor, a ceramicist, a photographer, a print maker, and a rug-hooker to exhibit works featuring the feathery creatures.
The Gallery will also be hosting a solo exhibition of Susan Paterson in October, one of the gallery’s most popular artists.
