The renovation of the Mount Allison Pool which was scheduled to start in early May has been delayed, and is now looking at beginning at the end of May or early June.

“We’re re-evaluating the project to make it work within the scope,” says Athletic Director Pierre Arsenault. “The project is currently out to tender.”

The project is designed to renovate the pool area of the Athletic Centre, and is expected to take until the end of September to complete.

“The renovation will consist of replacing the roof, and getting rid of the catwalks that are up there,” says John Peters, Swim Coach and Pool Administrator. “We’ve got to change the filters, pumps, and all the chlorine and pH equipment.”

The rest of the Athletic centre will remain untouched for this summer, but according to Arsenault there are plans to redo the basement level of the building.

“The second phase, to happen in the future,” says Arsenault, “will be going through the main lower level where the change rooms are, but this year it is just the pool area that will be affected by the renovations.

“Our priorities this year are the roof of the pool and the vent system, which will go up on top of the roof.”

Peters’ wish is to have the pool ready to go at the end of September, so he can have people in it by early-to-mid-October.
