Top 10 Things I learned from small towns

  1. That guy you’ve been spending all night flirting with? Yeah, he’s probably your cousin.
  2. You might not know them, but everyone knows you. After all, they were bridge partners with your great-grandmother’s second cousin’s dog walker’s nephew.
  3. When you return to a normal-sized town, stoplights and even crossing the street become quite confusing.
  4. There always seems to be more wildlife around than people.
  5. If you need to go out, but are in a hurry, wear a disguise. Otherwise, you’ll get sucked into a conversation with someone who knows you, and who absolutely needs to tell you that you look just like your eighty-four-year-old grandfather. Thank you?
  6. Even in a small town, it is still possible to get lost. You take one wrong turn on your way to the ice cream store and next thing you know, you’re in the middle of a parade with no escape except to pull an illegal U-turn.
  7. You don’t have to worry about dating your friends’ exes; there’s no one else to date.
  8. If you try to plan anything, just tell people there will be free food. Next thing you know, everyone’s at your place.
  9. People get REALLY competitive about the Sunday softball leagues. Like, “Let’s recruit our third cousin twice removed who was once a part of a national softball team”-competitive.
  10. They know how to party. – See more at: http://argosy.ca/article/top-10-things-i-learned-small-towns#sthash.GCvgoXGV.dpuf
