Gears of War series acquired by Microsoft

Deal could lead to creative changes in the popular game series’ sequels.

The most popular third-person shooter series of all time has just been acquired by Microsoft, including rights to all existing and future games, entertainment experiences, and merchandise. The exciting Gears of War series brought foreword by Epic Games has been acquired to have its future instalments be released solely on its consoles.

In an interview with Xbox Wire, Head of Microsoft Studios Phil Spencer based the acquirement of the series was because of its fans.

“The Gears of War franchise has a very strong, passionate, and valued fan base on Xbox. Over twenty-two million units have been sold across all Gears of War titles worldwide, grossing over $1 billion USD,” Spencer said. “This franchise, and these fans, is part of the soul of Xbox.”

However, Xbox has decided to take a more risky route and hire unproven studio Black Tusk over a more established studio.

“Black Tusk has assembled a world-class team with deep experience and passion for the shooter space, and specifically the Gears of War franchise,” Spencer said of the studio.

With Black Tusk hiring Rod Fergusson, who was the executive producer and director of production on the first three Gears of War games at Epic, this might lead to the fresh start the game needs after the low popularity of Gears of War 3.

At the very least, Gears fans can rest assured that more tales of meaty space marines taking down Locust are on the way care of Microsoft. The most popular third-person shooter series of all time has just been acquired by Microsoft, including rights to all existing and future games, entertainment experiences, and merchandise.
