Past and forthcoming Mounties sports action

The football Mounties are regaining control of the AUS conference with the help of two wins the past two weekends. On Oct. 10 the Mounties walked into Antigonish and disposed of the X-Men by a score of 27-17. This past weekend the Mounties again went on the road and came away victorious, overpowering the Axemen on their homecoming weekend 38-21. The Mounties were led by Kiel Ambursley, who had 131 yards and two touchdowns, solidifying his status as a go-to running back and a force in the AUS conference. Dakota Brush and Kyle McLean had 134 and 104 yards receiving, respectively. With two home games left on the schedule, including one Saturday, Oct. 24 against SMU, the Mounties look strong in their bid for top spot in the AUS conference.
The men’s soccer Mounties were beaten by a very tough and skilled Acadia team by a score of 4-0. The Mounties will look to bounce back from this defeat with a home game on Friday against the UPEI Panthers.
The women’s hockey Mounties played another game on Sunday in Charlottetown against the UPEI Panthers, unfortunately falling by a score of 2-0.
The varsity swimming Mounties had a strong weekend at their meet at UNB. Notable performances were had by Allison Loewen, who placed second in the 50-metre free, Geraint Berger, who placed first in the 100-metre I.M., and Laurel White, who placed second in the 50-metre breaststroke. Co-captain Zoee Leblanc commented, “Over the past month our team has put a lot of training in and despite being really sore and tired we displayed an excellent effort. We are looking forward to our upcoming meets at Acadia and Dalhousie.” The varsity swim team has two upcoming meets at Acadia and Dalhousie, on Oct. 31 and Nov. 20 respectively.
The men’s basketball Mounties participated in the Ken Gould Tournament in Federicton, N.B., with a notable win over host STU by a score of 85-52. The men’s and women’s basketball season openers will take place on Nov. 1.
In club sports action, the women’s rugby Mounties lost to STU by a score of 19-15. Their next and last game of the regular season will be this Sunday at 3 p.m. against UKC. The lacrosse Mounties lost two games last weekend, falling 14-8 to SMU and 13-5 against UNB.
